Penang Hill is located on this island of Penang, within the area called Air Itam. It is 6km from the city. Situated about 823 meters (2750 feet) above sea level on this northern part of Penang, this oldest hill resort and the first in Malaysia has cool, unpolluted air and historical feature. It stands prominently from the lowlands as a hilly and forested area. It's original name was Flagstaff Hill known by the British, back in the old days of Penang , when a flag fluttering from a flagpole at Bel Retiro, the home of the Governor of Penang at that time, was used as a signal transmitter.

The locals affectionately called it Penang Hill or Bukit Bendera. It was Francis Light who plotted Penang Hill during his horse track way back in 1788. British colonials started building bungalows for private use in the 19th century as the climate is cooler on the hill compared to the city heat. Its average temperature is between 20-27 degree celcius.

The Penang Hill Canopy Walk is located about 1.7km from the Penang Hill Railway Station, which incidentally, is also out of operation. The Penang Hill Canopy Walk is the now abandoned 150-meter long walking suspended from the tall trees in Penang Hill. It was opened in 2003 and was operational for just a few months before it was closed for repairs. From then on, it was opened and closed without much announcement. Part of the reasons why the canopy walk closed down was that it failed to attract sufficient customers. Also, the neighboring houses consider the canopy walk an intrusion on their privacy.

Thong Thai Café located nearby to one of a Penang many appealing location, Penang Hill. A Thai grill located during a connection of Jalan Pokok Ceri and Jalan Bukit Bendera portion authentic Thai cuisine.

Green Curry Chicken RM12, immature curry is a unequivocally difficult season image as it has many form of spices in it though cooking with chunks of proposal duck beef is many people favorite.

Tom Yam Prawn RM22, tom yam soup here somewhat opposite from others as their season is some-more on honeyed side rather than sharp and sour, privately we like a sharp and immature tom yam some-more than honeyed tom yam though altogether ambience still not bad, what we like a many is a large uninformed white prawn use.

8:30pm - 10:30pm : Visit Kek Lok Si

The Kek Lok Si Temple is a Buddhist temple situated in Air Itam in Penang and is one of the best known temples on the island. The construction of the temple began in 1893 and was inspired by the chief monk of the Goddess of Mercy Temple at Pitt Street. With the support of the consular representative of China in Penang, the project received the sanction of the Manchu Emperor Guangxu, who bestowed a tablet and gift of 70,000 volumes of the Imperial Edition of the Buddhist Sutras.

The primary benefector of the the Kek Lok Si Temple in 1906 was none other than Kapitan Chung Keng Quee.In 1930, the seven storey main pagoda of the temple or the Pagoda of 10,000 Buddhas, was completed. This pagoda combines a Chinese octagonal base with a middle tier of Thai design, and a Burmese crown; reflecting the temple's embrace of both Mahayana and Theravada Buddhism.

The temple is a focal point of festivals of the Chinese community in Penang. The Chinese New Year celebrations are particularly impressive: for 33 days following Chinese New Year, the temple remains open until late at night whilst thousands of lights turn the scenery into a sea of light.

At the Kek Lok Si Temple ground, it contains beautiful gardens and sacred pond. One of the famous ones will be of course "The Liberation Pond" (Sacred Turtle Pond). Chinese tradition believes that a turtle is a symbol of longevity, strength and endurance. It is an act of spiritual liberation when a turtle is captured and set free in this pond.
